TRAVEL JOINT
INTRODUCTION
Travel joint is designed for application in both single string and multiple string completions, and provide alternative methods of compensating for the tubing contraction and elongation in producing, injection, and disposal wells. It is run as an integral part of the tubing string and has a full tubing drift ID which is compatible with other downhole control equipment. After the packers and associated equipment are in place, travel joint may be activated. Depending on the application, travel joint may be activated by shear pins or standard wireline tools. The travel joint may be sheared by tension or compression. They may also be sheared during initial completion operations or left the pin to be sheared at a predetermined value later. The travel joint can be pinned at any point in the stroke. The release value can be varied by the number of shear screws. The tool can compensate for 10 ft tubing movement.
